May 2026 is going to be a busy month with conferences in Galena, Pittsburg, KS and Denver.
Galena, IL is the epicenter of the old Upper Mississippi lead mining district and it celebrates it’s 200th anniversary this year. There will be a Galena History Symposium at the De Soto House Hotel on May 15-17 organized by Tracy Lee Roberts, Professor emerita at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. On May 28-31 the Mining History Association is holding its annual conference in the old Tri-State Lead mining district at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS with an opening reception at the Mineral Museum in Joplin, MO. Information at www.mininghistoryassociation.org
The American Conference for Irish Studies is holding its annual meeting at the University of Colorado, Denver from May 27-31, with Professor James Walsh of the Leadville Irish Miners Memorial fame as the host. Information at www.acisdenver2026.com
